Tim Holtz - Dec month - 12 tags of 2013

 I know this is late on me posting in my blog.  But I wanted to share my version of Tim Holtz - December tag for the 12 tags of 2013.

I am looking forward to continuing on with these tags in 2014.  This is really a great outlet that Tim provides us to tap even further into our artistic capabilities.   I will say that he always gets me to push the envelope and further expand my skill as an artist.

I enjoy making these tags and cant wait to get started on the January 2014 tag.  He posted this today and for once I don't have to buy something to make the tag.  I have everything needed to make the Jan 2014 tag.

I will be working on Jan 2014 tag in the coming week and posting my project.

2014 Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable 2013 and a good start to 2014. 

When I sit and reflect on 2013 one of my proudest moments is my craft space transformation. Below I have a pic of before and after. I love my new studio that I have to craft in.

 I will be featured in CPS Studios magazine in the newsstand issue that will be out mid February (2/14/14).

I can't wait to share my space, my article and a little bit more about myself as an artists.   In 2014 I hope to be afforded the opportunity to be a guest designer with several companies.   An my goal would be on a design team.

I will be focusing more in 2014 on my social media, building out my artistic talent and further exposing myself to elements in craft I have not yet tapped.

Tami Ferguson canvas project-Dec13

Hello all,  I am back but yet again to share another canvas project I made for my other sister for Christmas in 2013.   Here is the canvas I made for my sister.

For this canvas I utilized many elements, textures and embellishments.  

Supply list:
- 1 Artist's Loft 8inX10in canvas
- 2 collage sheets of fabric
- Tim Holtz distress paint - scattered straw, mustard seed and walnut stain
- Tim Holtz idea-ology - Ruler Ribbon
- Inkessentials foil tape sheets
- Tim Holtz -Sizzix Alterations die - Love Struck - # 657484
- Tim Holtz - distress ink - gathered twig and old paper
- Tim Holtz idea-ology buckle embellishment
- grunge board
- antique ruler
- other embellishments paper and stamps

For this project I first took the canvas and used the distress paints and developed a background that would blend well with the collage fabric sheets.   Once the background as fully dry I then used matte medium to attach the collage fabric sheets to the canvas.

I then let that fully dry (you can use a heating tool to speed the process up) and then I wanted to seal the background.  So I sprayed the canvas with Matte Finish spray made by krylon.

I then took the heart I cut out and covered it with foil tape.  I used then the embossing folder Riveted Metal to give the heart dimension/texture.  I used aged mahogany distress stain and used sand paper as well to give it a textured look.   I attached wings from the idea-ology tim holtz embellishments onto the canvas.  I also used a Tim Holtz stamp on a transparency in this piece.

I then put this all together and added my sisters name to the piece to further personalize it.

Carlene Xmas canvas project-Dec13

I wanted to share the canvas project I made as a gift for Christmas for my sister Carlene Fagg.

I loved this project I made. It incorporated many elements. I completed this canvas by using Authentique paper.   The paper came from their Collection: Be (you)tiful "Integrate" & "Persevere" paper.  My friend Michael Farrell really turned me onto this paper when seeing him create several cards with this collection. 

I love the Authentique brand and the bee design really gave me a creative thought to making this project for my sister.

Items used in this project were:

- 1 sheet 8.5in by 11in Bazzill grey cardstock
- 1 Artist's Loft 8inX10in canvas

- I also incorpated some brads, embellishments, stains, etc

I first took the canvas and used old paper stain to age the canvas.  I then took the grey card stock from bazzil and attached to canvas after dirtying up the sides by distressing.  Once I had that completed and attached with adhesive to the canvas I then used the Authentique paper to layer in the back ground. 

I incorporated a tag into the canvas to keep to the overall theme. In making the tag I used the Embossing with Stencils technique I learned in Tim's creative chemistry 2 class.

I then just finished assembly and marring my work to give the finished project a distressed/vintage feel.

Thanks for stopping by my blog but wanted to share this canvas project I made.  It was a lot of fun and one I almost couldn't part with.  I find many times when you put your heart and soul into a project when it is completed you don't want to part with it.   But I always realize that means I made this with great love and attention to detail.   I am so glad my sister loved this piece I made for her and the best part was seeing her smile when she opened the gift at Christmas.

I was in a swap in December that the theme was Tim Holtz. Here is the tag I made for my partner Kathy Peck. She loved it and so glad.

I utilized all Tim products and a technique learned in creative chemistry 2.

Doll project Dec2013

  Over several months ago I was out just browsing designer pages.  I stumbled across Jim Hankins page and found this amazing doll he made.   It gave me an idea to make my sister a doll and then I had the desire to make my own doll project.   I completed and gave my sister her doll and have been trying to figure out what my doll theme and piece would be.

 I first had to go out and purchase another doll form and I was able to find another one at Tuesday morning.  My project started with this doll form that I purchased at Tuesday Morning.

My next step in the process was to figure out what type of style I wanted this doll to have.  I wanted to have a distress vintage feel.  I have always like antique and old rulers so I knew I wanted to have that element.  I also wanted this project to relate with my style and personality as an artist.  Here were the base materials used to develop the dress for the doll.

I decided I wanted to use tags with a paper and fabric element.  So I attached fabric and old ledger paper to tags.  I ended up making 60 tags to use to produce the dress in my project.  I used adhesive to attach the fabric and ledger paper.   I then sewed several of the tags with edged stitching on the journal tags to give that additional element.

I attached each tag to the doll by using a glue gun and alternated the tags to develop my pattern.  I then added elements of embellishments and choose to use keys, gears and time pieces.  Here are more pictures of my doll.

When going through the process and attaching tags I found as I edged further down the form I ran into where I had a gap between layering edges.  So I had to figure out what to do that would bring the dress panels together.  I then decided to take old wooden rulers and cut them to size and use those as my seam to bring the panels of the dress together. 

I hope you enjoy my dress project and this was a Christmas present I made for myself.   This piece is proudly displayed in my studio and is used as a muse to help me with my creativity.   This is one of my proudest projects to-date.

2013 Christmas card

Well this is third Christmas I have made homemade cards. I have a love for snowmen and wanted to make a card that exhibited one as the focal point.

This past year Tim Holtz introduced an assembled snowmen sizzix die. I saw this die and had to have it.

This die is what I used to make my card and then added other elements to archive a vintage feel.






I hope you enjoy as I loved making them. This year it took me almost 70 hours to make 45 of them. I don't think I ever fully think about what it will take to complete them.

Sunday time to play and create

  Well was so happy to find time today to be able to have time to create.   I had been wanting to make this tag that would utilize many different elements and textures. 










For this project I utilized of course mostly tim holtz product.   Like that is an automatic known..lol



I first started with a #10 size tag that is made by Ranger Inkssentials - 4 1/8" x 8 1/2" tag - brown craft.



I then took some of Tim Holtz fabric and sewed this onto the tag.  I then utilized several on the edge dies from Tim Holtz and stains to create the following tag.



I then of course used a lot of embellishments to finish this project off.

Nov tim holtz 12 tags 2013

Here is my tag made for Nov 12 tags 2013. This was a technique that tim taught in creative chemistry 2.



I wasn't sure at first if this technique I would use much. But is warming up to me now. Love the dimension and look it achieves.
